"Real Adventure Travel"

Our tours, Expeditions, Treks, and Adventures, are designed for “Real Adventure Travel”; groups are
kept small, from 4-6 clients so we can experience the local culture and explore unusual places and areas
of interest to the group. Each expedition, trek or adventure tour is lead by an Experienced American SWS
Mountain Guide who works with the local guides and services to provide the best and safest adventure
trip possible. While physically active, some physically demanding, we do allow for time to enjoy the
culture, explore the sights and sounds of each country we visit.  We strive to show you the best each country
has to offer, no canned tours in air conditioned buses, we interact with the local population, culture, and explore opportunities and celebrations when they occur. Whether we are finding a great out of the way restaurant,
joining a local celebration, watching the parade, or hiking to an out of the way spot, it will always be fun
and exciting. Having a great time and meeting our goals is a top priority! Small groups give us the ability to
make changes to the itinerary to take advantage of special events while pursuing our goals.

Everest Basecamp Trek
Himalayas, Nepal, Asia

Our Everest Basecamp trek will be a 14 day trek through Everest base camp stopping along the way to tour the centuries old Buddhist monasteries. This portered tea-house trip will be for backpackers and climbers a like. With a starting elevation of about 8,000ft the trip begins near the rainforest. As the trail ascends along the ridges and valleys of the Khumbu region the environment quickly changes to conifer forests and high alpine terrain. After nine days of hiking we reach Everest base camp and an optional side hike to Kala Pataar at over 18,000 feet.
A typical day in the Khumbu may be spent hiking within view of the highest mountains in the world. Ama Dablam, Pumori, Nuptse, and Everest are just a few of the big peaks along the way. On rest days we take it easy with an opportunity to visit local Buddhist monasteries, barter in the trader’s markets, or spend a relaxed evening in the tea houses learning about the Nepali people.
“I’m couldn’t be more excited about this trip.” SWS guide James Brown. “This is one of the most exciting regions of the world if you love the mountains. This trip allows an awesome sampling of big peaks and an opportunity of emergence in Nepal and Sherpa culture.”
For the more experienced climbers there will also be the opportunity for an optional side climb of Imja Se (Island Peak, 20,285ft.) This climb poses a more technical adventure to the trip despite being one of the smaller peaks of the Himalayas. It is a perfect starting point for people interested in climbing the Himalayas in the future.
The return to Katmandu marks the end of our expedition and an opportunity to see more an amazing country. Come see what this trip has to offer you, give us a call at 888.797.6867

Kamchatka Volcanoes Trek
Pacific Region, Russia, Asia

Kamchatka is one of the most remote places in Russia, a large peninsula bounded by the Pacific and its seas. It is known to be one of the places in the country that is almost left untouched. It's virgin mountains and  forests with unique and exotic plants found nowhere else in the world are full of wild birds and animals. For almost a century this wilderness was closed to foreign visitors as well as many other places in Siberia and Pacific. This wild mountainous land, lying on the 'Pacific Rim of Fire', is a highly unstable geological area prone to volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, stretching from Alaska in the east across the Aleutians to Kamchatka and southwards to Japan. These comments were made by Robert Perkins, the American ecologist when he visited Kamchatka in 1990. He was possibly the first Westerner to have visited Kamchatka in 40 years. It is a remote region of Russia being 9 time zones from Moscow. The area was shrouded in secrecy it being the home of the Soviet Pacific fleet. Our trip passes through the wilderness areas of the volcanoes and hot springs in two areas, one to the south and the other to the west of Kamchatka's main town and port Petropavlovsk. Come join SWS Mountain Guides for a remote trekking adventure.

Trek In The Altai Mountains
Siberia, Russia, Asia

The Altai mountain system covers a vast region located in four different countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia. The highest part, called the High or Central Altai, lies on Russian territory and rises up to 4506m (Mt. Belukha) the highest point of Siberia, much of this region is glaciated. Our trek lies entirely in Russia, in the autonomous region called "Altai". The region is inhabited by Russians and by the local Altaians, the latter are of Mongoloid origin and follow Shamanist traditions. In summer the Altai, with its cold high plateaus, high ranges with their permanent snow and deep, moist, forested valleys, stand out as a cool island among the hot steppe plains .Mountain valleys are forested with spruce fir and pine interspersed with grassy meadows. Higher in the mountains pine and fir trees give way to aspen, birch and finally larch and dwarf conifers.  Many varieties of deer populate these valleys and the open areas are grazed by mountain goats, sheep, and yaks. Compared to the hot plains the rainfall here is quite high. The High Altai boasts more than 6 thousand lakes and tens of thousands of rivers. We will pass several of these beautiful lakes on our trek. It is here in the Altai, that the sources of two of Russia's great rivers are found - the Ob and the Irtysh. Barnaul itself lies on the Ob, at a point where the river leaves the mountain valleys to start on its long journey across the steppe to the Arctic Ocean. The town owes its origin to the rich mineral resources found in the region, in particular to silver.

Cordillera Blanca Adventure & Trek
Andes, Peru, South America

We begin our journey in Lima, the capital of Peru. After an evening in the hustle of this strongly Spanish-influenced city, we ride a bus north along the arid coast, then east and up into the mighty Andes of central Peru. Our destination is Huaraz, lying at an altitude of 10,000 feet in a wide river valley, the Callejon de Huaylas. Your first view of this fertile valley is dazzling. As the bus tops the last pass, the view of the ice-clad Cordillera Blanca spread across the horizon is unforgettable. The Cordillera Blanca ("white mountains"), contain some of the finest alpine trekking and climbing found in the world. Lying just ten degrees south of the equator, this glaciated, tropical range has over 40 peaks approaching 20,000 ft. The east side of the Blanca's feed the head waters of the Amazon River, while the west side is cut by many deep "U-shaped" glacial valleys.

This is a land of beautiful turquoise lakes and high granite cliffs. The highest mountain in Peru, Nevado Huascaran (22,205') is found in the Cordillera Blanca, in the country's finest national park, Parque Nacional Huascaran. We will be taking a six-day trek from Llanganuco to Santa Cruz deep into the Blancas. We will be passing by deep turquoise lakes, high granite wall and dozens of peaks up to 22,000 ft
