Mountaineer's Route
An excellent mountaineering course
for learning the techniques need to Climb Mt. Whitney (14,498 ft.) via
the mountaineer's route (class 3-4).
A guided climb of the highest peak
in the lower 48 states. We climb via the mountaineer's route a classic
2-3 class designed for first time climbers or experienced hikers. Spectacular
views and an exceptional route await the participants on this climb.
Space limited to 6 clients and 2 guides. Permits and permit fees are
included. Book early for this one or call at the last minute and we
may have a space or two on a departure.

Basic

Learn the basics of mountain climbing
in the stunning alpine environment of the Eastern Sierra. This three-day
course is a “skills based” training which begins with the
basics of snow travel and culminates with an ascent of the Dana Coliour.
Learn how to use a variety of tools and techniques for climbing rock
and snow as well combining these skills for mixed alpine routes. A great
introduction to summer alpine mountaineering.
Note: This course consists of three consecutive day
trips. Forest Service campgrounds are located only minutes away from
our daily meeting locations. Camping equipment can be rented upon request. |

This is a continuation of our Basic Alpine Mountaineering
featuring a quick review of basic mountaineering techniques before moving
on to advanced instruction on protection placement, route finding, alpine
rock climbing, ice/snow climbing, crampon use, snow & ice hardware,
and multi-pitch climbing. We will then attempt the North Peak Couloirs
which ascends alpine ice up to 65 degrees. For the person with previous
climbing experience (rock or snow) or who has taken a Basic Mountaineering
Course.
Note: This course consists of three consecutive day

Our comprehensive course in the basics of alpine
climbing. Learn how to use a variety of tools and techniques for climbing
rock, ice and snow as well combining skills for mixed alpine routes.
Topics include route planning and preparation, navigation
(map/compass, altimeter, GPS), objective hazards,and mountain medicine.
An introduction to the technical equipment used in alpine mountaineering,
(harnesses, ropes and hardware), basic rock climbing techniques, anchor
systems, belaying and rappelling. Instruction in the use of ice ax and
crampons, (German and French crampon technique), self arrest, snow anchors,
roped team travel, and glissading.We will put our skills to the test
by attempting a 13,000 ft. peak in the Palisades via a 3rd/4th class
route |

This is a continuation of our Basic Mountaineering

and multi-pitch climbing.
You will then test your skills on a 4th/5th class
route on one/or two of the 14,000 ft. peaks of the Palisade group.
Peak climbs include: Mt. Sill (14,153 ft.), North
Palisade (14,242 ft.), Thunderbolt Peak(14,003 ft.), Polemonium Peak
(14,080 ft.) or others depending on group skills. |
