Basic Winter Mountaineering
Lassen & Sequoia National Parks


Our most popular winter seminar provides instruction in the basics of winter mountaineering. Designed to build a basic foundation of winter mountaineering skills for all types of winter adventurers, snowshoers, skiers, snowboarders, climbers, and mountaineers.
You will learn the fundamentals of establishing a winter camping, traveling over winter terrain, basic avalanche safety/rescue, winter survival, staying warm, winter route finding, and mountain safety. As well as technical skills in ice ax self-arrest, crampon use, and basic rope travel.
The course culminates with an winter attempt of Lassen Peak (Lassen Park) or Alta Peak (Sequoia Park).

Advanced Winter Mountaineering
Mt. Shasta & Mt. Whitney

 

For experienced climbers, snowshoes, skiers, and snowboarders with previous ice ax, crampon, and rope handling skills.
Practical training in climbing large peaks in a winter environment. Excellent training for winter climbers or expedition members heading for Mt. McKinley.
Instruction includes: rope team travel, snow protection placement, high camp establishment, avalanche hazard evaluation and more.
This course culminates with an attempt of Mt. Shasta via Casaval Ridge or Mt. Whitney's Mountaineer's Route.

Winter Expedition Training
Mt. Shasta & Mt. Whitney
 
Designed for experienced climbers in need of extended training in the winter environment. Provides training for climbers considering or planning High Altitude Expeditions.
Gain the experience you need before heading off to Mt. Mckinley,
South America or the Himalayas.
Conducted like a mini-expedition over 4 days this course will establish camps on the selected mountain and provide training for climbers considering or planning High Altitude Expeditions. A summit attempt from our high camp of Mt. Shasta or Mt. Whitney.
