Our recreational level 1 class is the basic foundation for understanding how to identify avalanche terrain.  Instruction includes providing a better understanding to an avalanche forecast, and how to reduce your exposure to hazards when traveling in avalanche terrain.  Our training program is designed to increase students avalanche awareness and help develop travel protocols. Our avalanche skills training courses focus around identifying avalanche terrain, how to manage backcountry travel skills, and how to reduce your risk exposure while traveling in snowy environments. This course is approved by the American Avalanche Association and exceeds their minimum requirements for level 1 curriculum. Class time is spent as a mix of classroom lectures, videos, discussions, and in field environments. Courses are designed for all types of users. This includes snowshoers, backcountry skiers, snowboarders, mountaineers, ski patrol, and mountain guides. We use a variety of systems and processes to evaluate avalanche hazards, how to minimize exposure to them, and how to develop a better understanding of decision making protocols.

Recreational Level 2 Course

$775.00 per person / 3 Days

Mt Shasta & Bear Valley CA, Mt Charleston, NV.

Looking to expand your avalanche safety training? If you’ve completed a level 1 course along with an avalanche rescue course, a level 2 course is a great idea.  In the level 2 training course, we will expand your knowledge and understanding of avalanche mechanics.  This course goes much deeper into  avalanche safety training and snow science.  A recreational level 2 course is also a great pre-course to taking the professional level 1 course. While not required prior to that course, it is highly recommended. Our recreational level 2 course curriculum exceeds the American Avalanche Association’s minimum requirements, and consists of classroom instruction, video, discussion, and 16+ hours time in the field. Field time will be spent hands-on evaluating the snowpack structure, strength, and propagation propensity. This course is designed to take a much deeper look at snow science and build on the fundamentals taught in the level 1 course. Explore deeper into the most up-to-date science, and develop a more technical understanding of how avalanches form and release.  This course builds on the foundation taught in the level 1 course, and will provide you with additional tools for a better decision making framework.

The Avalanche Rescue Course is a perquisite to a recreational level 2, or the Professional Level 1 courses.  The fundamental goal of an avalanche rescue course is to give students the necessary training and skills for a variety of rescue scenarios.  In this course, we complete a number of companion and team rescue scenarios.  Our curriculum has been reviewed and evaluated by the American Avalanche Association to meet the highest industry standards. Avalanche skills training revolves around four core components: rescue considerations, required equipment and applications, companion rescue processes, and post incident care considerations.  All courses are lead by guides/instructors with years of field experience and who are professional members of the American Avalanche Association (A3).
